Not Really A Drawing

But it could be considered a type of drawing I guess. Maybe a stab at Illustration? I cut the electrical tower out of a laser print and pasted it onto my really amateurish watercolor background. You can see a larger version here.

I have to say that this was a lot of fun to produce and it has given me some interesting ideas to play with this summer. I need to do more of this.

Observed on A Saturday

I was driving around this morning and saw this water truck. I have seen it before and could not resist sharing it with people outside of the UAE. I am guessing that this water is as pure as mothers milk? I laugh every time I see one of these trucks.

Things I Miss About Spring

I was thinking this morning about the things I miss. Specifically things I miss about spring. I miss dandilions of all things. Those happy yellow weeds that turn into amazing little puff balls that are so much fun to blow into the wind and kick on the run. I miss the smell of fresh cut grass and being able to stay out a little bit later ever day. The color of the sky and the change of the trees and the smell in the air. I miss the April showers that bring May flowers. The smell of the fresh rain on the asphalt streets and the sounds of cars swishing by. The dashing from the car to the building and back again and the squeaking of wet shoes on tile floors. I miss grass stains on the knees and washing the car on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Little blossoms peaking out of the ground and the feeling that summer and all the adventure that it brings will be here before too long.

It has been summer here in Abu Dhabi for almost a month now. Temperatures in the 90’s and sometimes 100’s. There was a dust storm today that as soon as I walked outside after church I could feel my body react to the heat and dust. It sure will be nice to get back home and have all four seasons again.

So nice.

Stranger Than Fiction

We watched the movie Stranger Than Fiction on Friday night, and I like it very much. Will Ferrell, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman are all great, the story and directing are wonderful and the graphics are outstanding. Even Kristin made a comment on the graphics being cool. These little diagrams have been skillfully added to the movie and really help to tell the story of Harold Crick. They were done by a motion graphics firm in Kansas City called MK12, and really add to the charm of the movie and make the internal thoughts of Harold stand out. You can watch the opening sequence on their site.

Two thumbs up, I highly recommend it.
